***2009 Frostbite Series***
What would you do for a commemorative t-shirt? Would you ride your bike during at least 4 weekends in the month of December? Sound crazy?
Well, last year a determined group of members participated in the infamous JSTS Frostbite Series, and just 16 of them completed the series and got a highly-coveted Frostbite Series T-shirt... free to members (and Clyde).
This year there are only 4 weekends in the month of December, and you'll need to ride during all 4 of them to complete the series (mix-and-match from either of the options below):
- Road Rides - There are road rides scheduled for every Saturday morning from Opatut Park (next to the Freehold YMCA), and every Sunday morning from Holmdel Park.
- Mountain Bike Rides - There are mountain bike rides scheduled for every Saturday morning at various local parks. Mountain biking is a great way to enjoy outdoor riding during the colder months. Give it a try! (MTB rides may also be scheduled on Sundays... so watch your email for late breaking updates).
Riding twice in one weekend does not suffice for a missed weekend. You must ride on 4 separate weekends... No exceptions!
RIDE LEADERS - All riders MUST sign-in in order to receive credit for a ride. The list of riders must then be emailed to the secretary by end-of-day Tuesday following the ride. If you do not email the list of riders to the secretary, then no one gets credit for the ride. It is up to the ride leader to determine if it is safe/appropriate to ride.
It is also up to the ride leader to determine if it is unsafe or inappropriate to ride due to poor weather or poor riding conditions (cold and wind typically don't count... we're usually talking about rain, snow, or ice). If the ride leader cancels the ride, members should still sign-in at the ride, and a simple spin around the parking lot will meet the requirements to get credit for the ride. Ride leaders may also alter or shorten rides in extremely harsh weather (one of our Saturday road rides took place on the Henry Hudson bike trail just down the road from Opatut Park on an extremely cold and windy day).
Generally the only grounds for cancellation is that NJ has declared a state of emergency where we must not drive.
Specifically for MTB rides, bikes can do significant damage to muddy trails, and leave a poor message behind for other trail users to see. As a club, we promote responsible trail riding, and therefore MTB rides should be cancelled under these conditions. That's when MTB-riders show up, sign-in, and just do a spin around the parking lot to get credit for the ride.
RIDERS - Please PRINT your name clearly so that the the ride leader can make sure the right person gets credit for riding. If the ride leader can't read your name, you don't get credit for the ride!
NOT A MEMBER YET? Not a problem.... you can join right now! Remember, you only get credit for rides as a member. In other words, if you join in the middle of December after you realize that you completed some of the required rides, you don't get credit for completing the series (i.e., no t-shirt).
Don't sit around this holiday season or waste your time shopping... GET OUT AND RIDE!!!
