JSTS Zwift Group Workouts

You are always welcome to join any JSTS Zwift Group Workout, and ride the course just like any other JSTS Zwift Group Ride.  However, if you are interested in doing the structured workout that the rider leader designated for the meetup, then read on...

Group Workouts are not directly supported in Zwift, so there are some extra steps you must follow in order to participate in a JSTS Zwift Group Workout.  Make sure that you have followed all the steps to get an invite to join a JSTS Zwift Group Workout (this includes following the leader and accepting the invite).  If you are having problems joining a meetup, feel free to utilize Discord to try and get help from the other riders before the ride starts.

Don't wait until the last minute to get everything setup, as late arrivals are unable to join the meetup!

*** Please carefully follow the step-by-step instructions shown below ***
      • Note that steps 3 thru 8 can only be done AFTER you have joined the meetup, and you can only join the meetup once it is within 5 minutes of the start time.  Therefore, you should familiarize yourself with these steps BEFORE it is time to join the ride, so you can complete the steps within that 5 minute window.

STEP 1 - After launching Zwift and connecting all of your devices (trainer, HR monitor, etc), you should see a screen that looks like the one shown below.  Notice that the meetup is listed as an "UPCOMING EVENT" in the top right corner of the screen, and that meetup starts in 6 minutes.  Click on the <RIDE> button, as indicated by the arrow:

STEP 2
- You should now be "in-game".  If it is more than 5 minutes until the meetup is scheduled to start, you are free to ride around at this time.  Once it is within 5 minutes of the meetup time, the <JOIN MEETUP> button will appear (or if you are already riding, you will be prompted to join the meetup).  Click on <JOIN MEETUP>.

STEP 3 - After you have joined the meetup, click on the <MENU> button.

STEP 4 - The menu screen shown below should now appear.  Click on <Workouts> on the top right.

STEP 5
- The ride leader should have specified which workout is going to be used for this ride.  Workouts are grouped by category, and for this example, let's assume we are doing a workout in the category named "Zwift Academy 2018".  You may need to scroll the list up or down to find the category you are looking for.  Please note that they are NOT alphabetical.  Click on "Zwift Academy 2018" to expand that category and see the list of individual workouts.

STEP 6
-The workout we are looking in this example is "Over Ones", so we scroll the list to find that one, and then click on it.

STEP 7
 - After selecting the workout, you must click on the <WORKOUT> button at the bottom of the screen to confirm the workout.

STEP 8
- This will take you back to the menu screen, and you need to click <BACK> to return to the meetup.

STEP 9
- If you did everything correctly, you should now see the workout profile on the left side of the screen.  On the top right you can see that you are still in the meetup, which starts in 1 minute 54 seconds.  When you are doing a structured workout, you will also notice what looks like a "display screen" on the front of your avatar's bike.

STEP 10
- When the countdown clock reaches 00:00, the meetup begins.  In the top center of the screen you will see information about the workout, specifically, how much power you should be generating at that moment, and how long that step in the workout will last.  Please keep in mind that the power output for each rider is based on their FTP, so each rider will be riding at different power levels.  However, if the ride leader has set the "Keep Everyone Together" option for this ride, then all participants will stay together during the workout.

Remember, if you run into any problems, please reach out to the ride leader for assistance.  If you found any of these instructions misleading or confusing, please let your ride leader know, so that we can make any necessary improvements.

Ride On!
